Joint Research Center for Islamic Area Studies : Project to Reinforce Joint Research Centers in the Humanities and Social Sciences (MEXT)

In addition to conducting its own research, the Waseda University Islamic Area Studies Center (WIAS) also serves as the central office for Japan's IAS joint research network. Under the auspices of a Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) program, WIAS oversees and synthesizes the work of the five research centers in the IAS network. WIAS also promotes joint research on solicited topics, taking a "history of ideas" approach in its Solicited Research Topic, and an archeological approach in its Center Reinforcement Project.
